★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 686 reviews · 3 hours 30 minutes (approx.) Our pick

Start with a PADI video and hands-on instruction, then head from Marina Fonatur to Paradise Reef for two guided underwater sessions. Instructors such as Jorge, Gabo, Diego, Aldo, and Javier work patiently with beginners, while the crew supplies gear, snacks, drinks, and close safety support.

“Gabo was amazing. So patient and provided each of us with a tailored experiences that made us comfortable. Fantastic It is important to note this excursion takes about 4-5 hours. We were told by Viator 3.5 hours. When we discovered this after checking in with Discover Scuba they were kind and accommodated getting us back early so we could catch our cruise ship. However, we were only able to do half of the trip. Disappointing for such an expense but the Discover Scuba crew were amazing at doing their best to accommodate based on the miss information we received.”

See tropical fish, caves, coral, rays, and underwater statues, then use the beach, hammocks, palapas, and park facilities until 5 PM.

“Great activity to discover scuba diving. Luis Miguel was a great guide. At the end of the activity you have the choice to buy a package with photos and videos of your dive. Other than a couple sculptures under the water there's not much to see but I definitely recommend this activity if you want to try scuba diving once in your life without going through the certification, you also have the rest of the day to spend at the park where there's a nice beach and other activities like swimming with dolphins, snorkeling, relaxing at the beach, eating, etc.”

“This was a horrible excursion. First off, the directions were horrible. Nowhere did it mention that this was a resort hotel dive shop. The taxi driver didn't know where to take me and once I arrived at the hotel, no one knew where the dive shop was. Upon arrival, I did the paperwork and then started to get my gear. First they tried to tell me to wear an XL BC because they didn't have any large ones available. Then they tried to "fix" one that had hose that had come disconnected. The BC I ended up with on the boat had a leak. The dive guides were really nice…”

This 2.5-hour Cozumel experience includes gear, a private lesson, and use of snorkeling equipment afterward. Instructors such as Gael, Claudia, Bruno, and Renata are praised for calm, careful teaching.

“Gael was extremely kind and patient. It was me and my two kids, age 21 and 17. I'm 55, so it takes me a minute longer to catch on to new things. Gael kept his eye on me to make sure I understand everything and was comfortable. My son had already taken this course in Monterey, CA and he told me that Gael did a better job of teaching that the instructors in California. We enjoyed it!”
